Come harvest a plethora of pickle-able produce and learn how to make both "quick" pickles and fermented pickles. Bring your own jar to take some home!

Registration Required

Pickle Party

Abundance Farm’s Pickle Party invites participants to explore fermentation, food history, and sustainability through the simple act of pickling. This hands-on workshop offers a chance to measure salt-to-water ratios, observe pH changes, and transform summer vegetables into crisp, tangy snacks. Along the way, stories of global and local pickling traditions highlight how food preservation has long connected people to place and season. By working together to preserve surplus produce, participants reduce food waste, support local ecosystems, and build community, one jar at a time.

Self-Directed Learning

What makes a pickle a pickle? Discover the science behind pickling and how salt, vinegar, and time transform everyday vegetables into tasty, preserved snacks. Learn how fermentation works, what osmosis does to a cucumber, and why pickles were important to sailors, queens, and even Roman soldiers. Paired with the Community Pickle Party, this video supports hands-on learning in science and history. Try your own pickling experiment at home, explore food traditions from around the world, and see what kind of pickles your family likes best.
